I think (hope) these are the sort of questions many are asking. And I agree, it does matter!

I would argue that we learn form history though; it seems that the same problems, arguments and escalations to war happen all the time, with very little, if any, recourse to history and what peaceful resolutions there may have been to repeat.

Of course, part of the problem is there have been very few genuinely peaceful resolutions to conflicts around the world throughout history; almost always, it has been survival of the fittest, i.e. the best armed/most bloodthirsty. Thus it has ever been I'm afraid.
