4 Royal Flying Corps Sopwith Camel fighters get lost and come down near Namur and Rheims (1 pilot escapes into Holland after burning plane).

Battle of Caporetto: Italians again in retreat; they abandon the Tagliamento; enemy troops reach Maniago.

Palestine: General Allenby captures Khuweilfesh, 11 miles north of Beersheba. 17,000-strong XX Corps (1,300 casualties) storms central Turkish Sheria position (c.4,000 men + c.40 guns) without prelim barrage, takes over 600 PoWs and 12 guns.

Hejaz Railway: Lawrence and c.100 Arabs cross south of Deraa but lose explosives for Tell-el-Shehab rail bridge.

Italy: Conference at Rapallo (near Genoa) between Allied statesmen and generals on critical situation in Italy.
United States: U.S. Federal officials consider barring Germans and other enemy aliens from 100 miles of the coastline to prevent spying and espionage.
In Buchanan v. Warley, U.S. Supreme Court rules that Louisville, Kentucky cannot bar Blacks from buying homes in White neighborhoods.
